DJ LEAGUE RESTARTS JANUARY 22, 2008 SAYS HFA

By ROMULUS HUTA –‘STAR SPORTS’ – ISSUE NO.3514 THURSDAY 27 DECEMBER 2007

The DJ League resumes January 22, 2008 with the season’s ending by March 2008.

Honiara Football Association Administrator Barnabas Loloito confirmed this to Star Sports yesterday.

He said the start date applies to all three divisions in the Honiara Football Association DJ League.

The league was brought to a halt by last month’s Our Telekom Cup Championship and the festive season.

Marist FC currently lead the premier division with 18 points followed by Uncles on 14.

In division one, Junior Flamengo is on the top, whilst KGVI Snails lead division two.

KGVI Snails are new comers to the Honiara league. Students attending King George Sixth School are playing for the team.

So far, there were also a few surprises in the league. For instance, Rangers, which made up of young and talented players, some of whom are in the national squad, have yet to register a win after five games in the premier division.

In the first division, former premier division sides Las United and DMP, remained at the bottom of the ladder. Both sides were relegated after their poor showing in the premier division.

In division two, league hopefuls Isa United and Rainbow, are also struggling to make an impact.

There are definitely still no clear leaders in all three divisions, as teams have a number of games at hand.

Meanwhile, Loloito said they are yet to finalize the match schedules for the New Year.

Correction on HFA DJ league progressive tally

Today's star sports reported that Santos is at fourth placing as at 19/12/007, after having played 7 games.

This is not true. Santos played 8 games as at 19/12/007. Won 4, drew 2 and lost 2. Total points is 14 and not 11 as reported. Has 3 games remaining.

Thanks.

JEFF RAHARI FROM NZ ASSIST SANTOS FC

President and I opened the box containing Jeff's assistance at lunch time today. In the box were 2 soccer balls (match balls quality ones) and 2 soccer tops (spain and arsenal). Jeff is an Areka man residing and working in NZ. He has been in contact with us about this assistance some months ago. Jeff has a real heart to help his fellow country men excel in football and we appreciate very much that kind gesture, goodwill and assistance. Jeff and I did Form 6 at Waimapuru way back in 1992. He was in the Science. I was in Arts. We were both leaders of the Southern region of Malaita students body at school then.

If I place an estimate dollar value on the assistance in SBD dollars the assistance would be valued at around $600-$700. This is no small money and I really lift my hat up to you my brother Jeff. Ofcourse we always appreciate other helpers in the past too.

My first thought on the 2 soccer tops is to sell them and use the money to buy something of common use for the club, say training cones or soccer balls. Collective decision will be made later.

Photos will be posted later. Could not have them today as Henry's camera was borrowed.

With this assistance, Santos now has 12 soccer balls as at today (6/12/07). One needs repair before use.

Once again on behalf of players and management, thanks very much Jeff and wish you merry x-mas.

2 SANTOS FC PLAYERS IN THE CENTRAL SHIELDS TEAM

Two Santos FC players are in the Central Shields Squad currently in Honiara taking part in the Our Telekom Cup National Under 23 Tournament. The players are Leslie Haikau and Michael Hui. The two named players featured in the Central Shields first 11 lineup in their opening match against the Avaiki Chiefs on Saturday 24th November 2007. Central Shields comfortably won the match 4-2 with both Leslie and Michael proving to be players to watch in this tournament. Michael Hui scored two of Central Shield's four goals whilst Leslie was always at the forefront for breaking the Avaiki Chief's defence on the right flank and setting up the goals.

There were surprise upsets caused by two Provinces on two Honiara teams on last Saturday during the opening games. The Makira-Ulawa (Our Kakamora U23 Team) proved too good for the Central Honiara in outplaying and outscoring their opponents by 3 goals to 1. The Guadalcanal Honnets was also too good for the West Honiara side winning the match by 2-0.

The 3rd Honiara team (East Honiara Lions ) plays the Malaita Eagles team this afternoon at Lawson Tama - the match is expected to be a thriller and an exciting one to watch.

Due to the current national U-23 tournament, the remaining games and catch up matches in Division 1 of the 2007 HFA DJ League have now been postponed to recommence on 11/12/2007 until 22/12/2007 and again in the second week of January 2008. The same also applies to the Division 2 matches. Santos FC has three (3) catch-up matches for Island Brothers FC (now Eastern Knights), Lau Valley and Kolei United FC.

Santos 4 - EKU 0

Santos won comfortably yesterday. I only witnessed the last 10 minutes and so have nothing much to say on the game.

But as for preparation the team (Management and players) have been working hard for one week and that team effort paid off yesterday.

We now have 3 games remaining.

A P.N.G LAWYER ASSISTS SANTOS FC WITH SISBD$150.00

One lawyer from wantok P.N.G namely Mr. Malaki Unagui has donated the sum of $150.00 today (20/11/07) to the President of Santos FC Mr. Henry Kausimae at the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions, Honiara in Solomon Islands. This donation came after the club President Mr. Kausimae has appealed on behalf of the club to Mr. Unagui for assistance with soccer balls.

With the said $150.00, one new soccer ball costing $99.00 was purchased today. Santos FC now therefore currently has a total of eight (8) balls. The balance of $51.00 is being retained by the club president until 29/11/07 (next week). The club president will top up this leftover money ($51.00) on 29/11/07 and purchase another new ball next week.

In the meantime, another lawyer from wantok PNG namely Mr. Nicholas Mirou has also indicated his interest to assist Santos FC with soccer balls following the club president's appeal to him last week. Our readers and members will be updated as soon as that assistance finally comes in to hand and received from Nicholas. We expect a few more new balls to flow in before the close of this season.

Both Malaki and Nicholas are prosecution lawyers who are currently working with the Santos FC President (Mr. Henry Kausimae) in the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions, Honiara in Solomon Islands under RAMSI (You can see Malaki's and Nick's images in our pictures section below).

On behalf of the Santos FC, the club management would like to sincerely thank Malaki and Nick for the assistance that has already been offered or will be offerred to our club in the future. May God continue to bless you and your families both here in the Solomons and in PNG.

Santos now has 7 soccer balls

It has taken us longer than expected to have enough soccer balls. But thats the reality of managing soccer clubs in Honiara, where owners have to dig deep into their pockets to finance club needs.

I know other clubs who have one or two soccer balls as well. We are expecting two more balls from Jeff Rahari in New Zealand in the coming weeks.

If my wallet can permit, I hope to get two more next week.

Edwin not available for hand over ceremony

Edwin will not be available this afternoon as he lives in Suva, Guale plains and commutes to town daily. He asked me to relay his message to the boys that soccer balls will be coming next year. And that he's happy to assist Santos.

I asked Edwin for $70.00 to buy one soccer ball. He gave me $100.00. So I put another $50.00 on top and bought two soccer balls, at a bargain price ($150 for the two balls). The normal price is $78.80. It is not normal to bargain in Chinese shops in Honiara, but thank God this is the second time this week for me to get this special price.

Edwin Awaoli donates $100.00 to Santos

The above who owns EN Digital Printing Technology ltd (formerly Southern Star Printers), donated $100.00 to assist Santos acquire two soccer balls today.

I personally know Edwin as we went to Rokera high school on Small Malaita in the late 1980's. It is encouraging to see that he is now becoming an entrepreneur.

Santos is grateful to Edwin for realizing his social responsibility and for assisting his young Southern fellow men engage in worthwhile social activities. Edwin comes Eliote village, South Malaita.

I will try and arrange for a hand over ceremony this afternoon and have the pictures posted later.

Thank you Edwin.

Santos back to training today (15/11/007)

Boys were given a day off yesterday and are expected back to training this afternoon.

We have one week to prepare for the game next Thursday against EKU. If we can win against EKU it will give us a high chance of making the four top places in the league to qualify for the knock out next year for the three Honiara reps for the Solomon club championship.

Santos 1 - DMP 0

The above was the result of today's game (13/11/07). Guylard Kaotara scoring the critical goal 15 minutes into full time.

The game was evenly contested, and playing without our deadly striker Mr. Mark Wate (sick), finishing became a real problem. However the boys did well to defend the goal to the end.

Guylard for the second time earns the critical goal award prize.

We play EKU next Thursday. Now that exams are almost over for most of our boys, we expect good turn out in the coming weeks for collective training.

Santos has 5 pool games remaining

Including the one this afternoon, Santos has 5 games remaining for 2007 HFA DJ league.

The league this year will be played for one round only, with the four top teams from each division playing a knock out early next year to determine Honiara's 3 places in the Solomon club championship to find out Solomons club champion for 2008 OFC O league competition.

Santos a team dominated with students, we have had difficulties with lack of committment to training. The last month or so and particularly the last 2 weeks have been heavy for our student members. Form 6 exams finishes this week. But again, we could not ask for more, knowing that their education is the priority.

Wish our boys best of luck in their exams.

Santos 2- Telekom 0

Santos won last Saturday (10/11/07), in a game where Mark Wilson could have scored a hatrick, had he been careful. The third chance was classical. He beat the defenders and the goalie and with the open goal mouth, he wanted to do something fancy, and the ball went outside wide in the open goal mouth. He could have simply kicked the ball slowly into the net as the goal mouth was WIDE OPEN before him.

First half the boys did not play according to game plan. In the second half they did and they scored from ground ball build ups from midfield.

Backline was solid and Telekom did not threaten our goal mouth in any drastic way.

Tommorrow the boys play against DMP at 3:30 pm.

Sorry folks, this posting is coming late as I am having internet problems here at SIEA network.

Thanks - JAK (12/11/007).

Santos second loss

Santos lost the game yesterday 3-2 in favour of Toba Kings. It was an equally contested game.

Santos was leading 2-1 at half time. But Toba kings came back strong equalising and scoring the winning goal 10 minutes into full time. Santos played a much improved game but it was apparent that fitness was not there. Boys could not sustain strenght for 90 minutes.

I do not blame them as most of our boys are students facing exams, and their school is the priority.

We next play Telekom next Saturday (10/11/007).

Santos plays Toba Kings today (1/11/007)

Santos is playing without some of its key players this afternoon. Leslie Haikau, Mike Hui and Captains Augustine and Darwin are not available. Augustine injured. Darwin must be busy with F/6 exams preparation. Leslie and Mike are attending selection trial with Central Province u/23 squard, in Tulagi.

In spite of that Santos will still be strong and we are going with one aim - to win.

Will keep you posted on the result this evening.

Thanks - JAK (1/11/007).

Santos 1 - Northern United 4

Santos lost the game, in a game where our mistakes costed us dearly. We made mistakes and the opponent capitalised on those mistakes and converted goals. On the other hand they made mistakes too (more than us, I should say), but we failed to do what matters (convert into goals).

On more than 10 occassions, we had clear chances (only keeper to beat) and failed to convert into goals. One was a missed PENALTY in the first half.

Santos plays its next game next Thursady against Toba Kings.

Santos -v- Northern United this Thursday (25/10/007)

The above game will be played at KGVI South field at 3:30 pm local time.

Boys resume training yesterday in high spirit and are looking forward to the game on Thursday. In theory and going by history, this should be an easy win game for Santos. But days are not the same and only after the final whistle will the result be known.

Yesterday afternoon, Mark Wilson Wate walked away with the "Critical goal award" for scoring the winning goal against LS Kuma last Saturday.

Thanks for now and will keep you posted on the result this Friday.

Santos 1 - LS Kuma 0

The above is the result of last Saturday's game (20/10/007). The result came after a lot of hard work and cooperation both on and off the field. A lot of soul searching, game analysis, reflections on the first two games, mending differences and you name it occurred before the game during the camping at night at Keniapisia's residence. A change of meal was also implemented where players preferred to have a heavy meal in the morning before game intead of normal tea and bread.

On the field both teams have equal strenghts. But Santos midfield and strikers were better compared to LS Kuma. LS Kuma defence was good especially tall defenders did well to contain Santos strikers, more so when Santos could not manage to keep the ball on the ground at front. They did in the last dying minutes through substitute striker Charlie Houka at front and it paid off when the only goal was scored 2 minutes into the full time. That happened as a result of short, ground, skillful and one touch passes between Mark Wate and Charlie Houka. Doing so they managed to break through the defence in style and Mark Wate converted from a well placed through pass ball by Charlie. Both palyers are short fellas (Maradona feature) from Hautahe club, East Are' Are.

LS Kuma had few chances, but their striking was the problem. They do not have deadly strikers. Santos goal keeper had a real problem in his timing. Almost costed Santos on a few occassions.

This result was long awaited and should set the scene for the remaining games. Next game this Thursday against Island Brothers (I think).

Till then bye for now and will keep you posted.

Premier game results : Kosa 3 - Laugu 0 and Marist 3 - Agfa Hana 2.

Santos game against LS Kuma on 20/10/007

Santos marched into camp this Friday a head of its game against LS Kuma this Saturday.

To have a good chance of a good position for any of the 4 prizes and to play in the knock out for the 2 places to represent Honiara in the SI club championship next year, Santo must start winning its games hereafter.

The game on Saturday should provide a golden opportunity to play with class and improvement, having played together for 2 games already.

A head of the games on Friday night, boys will camp again as usual at John Keniapisia's residence.

Thanks - JAK (15/10/007).

SANTOS FC 1 - LAS UNITED FC 1

Santos FC played its second match of the HFA 2007-2008 DJ League Division 1 against Las United FC in the morning of Saturday 6th October 2007 around 10.00am at the KGVI North Field.

The match was evently battled out during the first half in the blistering heat. The Las United FC midliefld was fast onto the ball each time the Santos FC midfield wanted to control the ball and did not give Santos midfield the chance to dribble - a tactic which worked to Las United FC's advantage and which prevented Santos FC midfield from making any through passes to its strikers and scoring any goals in the first half.

In the second half, Las United FC opened the scoreboard from its unmarked left flanker on the blind side ( a similar type of scoring that Junior Flamingo FC made against Santos FC in its first match) and began to play more confident football.

This did not prevent Santos FC boys to regroup and build up on their attacks against the defence line of Las United. This paid off somewhere through mid way second half when a korner kick has been forced upon Las United defenders trying to contain the Santos speedy right flanker Leslie Haikau. A Leslie's well-taken corner kick came from a scuffle in front of the goal mouth perfectly onto the waiting boot of Santos defender Luke Ha'atarea who wasted no time in quickly blasting the ball passed the Las United FC goalkeeper's lefthand side.

Santos looked to be more in control of the match after their equalizer in the second half and searched tirelessly for the winning goal but Las United FC also put up a strong defence line and were made to work extra harder not to concede any further goals. The scoreline was tied up at 1-1 draw at full time.

Prior to this match, the Santos boys had gone into camp at the Club Treasurer (Mr. John Keniapisia's residence) on the night of Friday 5th October 2007 (Pictures of the said camp and the Santos -LAS United match can be seen in the pictures section below).

More updates will be coming up in relation to the next two matches for Santos, that is, against Lau Valley FC and Kolei United FC

Response to Jeff Rahari

In the latest posting (few minutes ago), I responded to your email and posting on this web page but forgot to write my name so it appeared as Henry Kausimae.

My email is down. Please come back ASP, as we need a few more soccer balls urgently.

Its your brother JK from Waimapuru days, if you are that Jeff that I mean.

Thanks - From JAK (JK).

Response to Jeff Rahari

Brother Jeff, its a blessing to see your keen interest and kind heart in offering to assist Santos. I am posting here cos my email is down and I need to get back to you urgently.

Santos has 2 soccer balls only so if you can assist buy some balls we will appreciate that. Those $20.00 soccer balls in NZ are good. I was in NZ in 2003 (Uni of Waikato), and has seen the prices then.

You can buy from NZ and send via big parcels in the normal mail. Alternatively you can send money and we'll buy this end. For your information good soccer balls in SI costs $150 plus. Please indicate which option you would like to take.

Yes I can recall those times you and Tony Harihiru were with Santos and the others. We want to organise the boys do something better.

I am proud of you Jeff. I always believe that we can export our human resources and you are an evidence to that. Keep it up.

And do not forget those Waimapuru memories, especially the good ones.

CATCH UP MATCHES FOR SANTOS FC NOW DOUBLES

With the postponement of this afternoon's scheduled match against Kolei United FC, the number of catch up matches for Santos FC has now doubled to two(2). The first catch up match will be against Island Brothers FC. The reason for postponing the Santos FC/Kolei United FC Division 1 match today being Tuesday 25th September 2007 was due to the non-availability of the match venue. The HFA has failed to secure or negotiate the SICHE Panatina field with the concerned institution's administration for its league matches. Therefore, it now seems very likely that all Division 1 and 2 matches will be played at the KGVI School two fields which means that a few more match postponements are likely to happen again particularly the matches previously earmarked for the SICHE Panatina field.
The catch up matches will be played after all matches in the fixture for the two KGVI fields are completed. Otherwise, HFA will have to find other alternative days during the week apart from Tuesdays and Thursdays for the catch up matches.
Despite this sudden change at very short notice, Santos FC players have been encouraged and urged by the managment to continue on with their normal trainings under the guidance of the Club's coach Mr. Chris Asipara who has now come back to the training ground after 3 months of absence from the boys.
Santos FC's next fixture match will be against Las United FC, a relegated team from the Super League Division last season. The match will be played on Saturday 6th October 2007 at 9.30am KGVI School south field. The boys are looking forward to this Las United FC match and the coach Chris Asipara having watched the Las United FC - LS Kuma FC match on Saturday22nd September 2007 confidently said that, his Santos FC boys are capable of beating Las United FC. Just keep on looking out for the result of the Santos FC/Las United FC match on 06/10/07.

SANTOS / JUNIOR FLAMENGO LEAGUE MATCH

SANTOS FC 1 – JUNIOR FLAMENGO FC 1

Santos FC played its first match against Junior Flamengo FC in Division 1 of the HFA 2007-2008 DJ League Season at KGVI School’s north field on Thursday 20th September 2007 at 4.00 pm.

Playing without its first 11 players and training without the coach for the last 2 months, Santos FC managed to hold the Junior Flamengo FC to a scoreless first half. Junior Flamengo FC is a team from Fishing Village (Fishery) settlement in Honiara which comprises mostly players from the National Under 17 and Under 20 Squads. Junior Flamengo FC did most of the attacking during the first half of the match when Santos FC midfield could not effectively take control of the ball or its players could not find their game rhythm and were forced back to do more defending.

About 10 minutes in the second half, Junior Flamengo FC scored the first goal by its unmarked left flanker collecting the ball on the left hand blind side behind the Santos FC’s defence line through a well timed cross from the right flanks, which he made no mistake in quickly blasting the ball past the left-hand far side of the Santos FC goal keeper and into the net. Prior to this score, Junior Flamengo FC has been using the same crosses on 2-3 occasions from its right flank to the left flank capitalizing on Santos FC backline’s and midfield’s failure in not switching their passes either upfront or to their right flanks.

With a goal behind, Santos FC quickly made a few changes in the midfield and left flank. Brown Akoeasi and Mike Hui came in for Santos FC’s midfield and Malachi Hina’i moved to the left flank replacing the injured Sammy Wara. This changed the momentum and tone of the game as Santos FC’s midfield quickly took control of the ball and settled down the game for Santos FC. The Santos FC midfield then created attacking football against Junior Flamengo FC switching the ball both to its left and right flanks, making crosses from the blind sides, creating through-ball breakthroughs and looked more to be in control of the game with Junior Flamengo FC players retreating to their half to do more defending.

Santos FC’s attacking and search for an equalizer finally materialized about 30 minutes in the second half when Santos FC’s right flanker Guyllard Kaotara, well timing a corner kick to be taken from the left hand side, positioned himself behind the Junior Flamengo defence unmarked and quickly headed the ball into Junior Flamengo FC’s open goal.

Locked at 1-1 about the 80th minute of the match, Santos FC posed some real threats to Junior Flamengo FC as it kept on its attacking game looking for the winning goal. The Junior Flamengo FC however did well in defending their goal for the remainder of the match which eventually ended in a 1-1 draw at the end of full time.

The match should have gone Santos FC’s way had the referee allowed Santos FC’s first goal when defender Michael Tahi made a solo attempt in the first half of the match, by running onto a 50-50 ball in the penalty area against the Junior Flamengo goal keeper, touched the ball into the open net and colliding with the diving keeper just about the same time. The referee on the other hand wrongly awarded a free kick against Santos FC’s Michael Tahi. Some of the Junior Flamengo FC players displayed unclean football and committed foul play against some of the Santos FC players in the match which resulted in one Junior Flamengo player picking up a yellow card. No cards were picked up by any Santos FC player during this match as the players displayed fair play and clean football as expected.

The Santos FC’s critical goal scorer in this match Mr. Guyllard Kaotara was awarded the critical goal award by the Club Management on Friday 21st September 2007 at the Club’s training ground at KGVI School. Mr. Kaotara received the prize from the Club President Mr. Henry Kausimae and witnessed by the players and the Club Treasurer Mr. John Keniapisia. The Critical Goal Award is an initiative taken and personally sponsored by the Club Treasurer Mr. John Keniapisia with the primary aim of cultivating a winning team mentality and spirit both in an individual player and the whole team as well. Mr. Keniapisia has vowed to keep on sponsoring this award out from his own pockets this season for matches’ goals scored in favour of Santos FC that are deemed critical to the Club either for winning the match or drawing the match. This initiative is indeed a moral booster for the boys and a step in the right direction for Santos FC.

The responsibility is now on the Santos FC Management to get the Club’s coach back in training to prepare the boys for their second match against Kolei United FC on Tuesday 25th September 2007 at 4.00pm.

The much awaited HFA 2007-2008 DJ League season finally and officially opened on Friday 14th September 2007 at the Lawson Tama Stadium, Honiara, Solomon Islands. The highlight of the opening ceremony was the parade match by the HFA affiliated clubs in all three divisions namely: Super/Premier, Division 1 and Division 2.

The clubs’ parade line up started in front of the multi-purpose hall around mid-day before marching into the Lawson Tama Stadium. Santos FC also took part in the opening parade (refer to the photos below). About 2-3 Clubs did not take part in the opening ceremony. There should be a total of 36 teams this 2007-2008 season in the 3 divisions that is, 12 teams or clubs in each division.

Two Super Division matches followed the opening at Lawson Tama. The newly promoted Rangers FC met the Super Division reigning giant Makuru FC in their first encounter. Makuru FC beat Rangers FC 3-1. The second game was between Marist FC and Koloale FC. Koloale FC overran Marist FC by 2-1.

Division 1 matches should have started on Saturday 15th September 2007 with Santos FC playing its first match against Island Brothers FC at Lawson Tama at 10.00 am. The Santos FC boys had went into an overnight camp at the Treasurer’s (Mr. John Keniapisia) residence on the night of Friday 14th September 2007. However, upon the Santos FC’s team arrival at Lawson Tama Stadium on 15/09/07 for the match, the HFA Officials advised them that the Santos FC- Island Brothers FC match has been postponed to a later date during the season as a catch up match.

According to the Division 1 match fixtures previously supplied by HFA for the 2007-2008 DJ League season, Santos FC’s first match is against Island Brothers FC on a Saturday and the second game is against Junior Flamingo FC on the following Thursday. As such, Santos FC first match for this season is now very likely to be held on Thursday 20th September 2007 at 4.00 pm at KGVI School north field against Junior Flamengo FC but this yet to be confirmed by the HFA administration and management.

Santos HFA Registration fees for 2007 paid

Only a few days after HFA announcement, I paid for the club's fees. The time allowed is up to 8/09/007. However when only a few clubs have paid they used that as a poor excuse for delaying start of the league, inspite of the fixtures already distributed at a technical meeting held 2 days before the initial start date 18/08/007.

I want to inform Santos supporters and fans that Santos has paid its fees for 2007 complete and ready to play but for unacceptable reasons there is yet further delays.

I encouraged boys and management to get over this frustration and keep preparing.

Thanks - From JAK

Dear Mr. Omearo

RE: USE OF SOCCER FIELD

Please refer to your letter on the above dated 11/07/2007 and my sincere apology for this belated response.

I must first of all thank your school management and sports committee for that understanding reached with one of our club official paving the way for our use of the field for some time now. Additionally I also thank you for allocating a space for us in 2007 at the price quoted ($1000.00).

I had paid for HFA registration fees and will start making installment payments to you as soon as I have funds coming in from my various fundraising initiatives. Field hire is my second priority to registration fees, given the limited funds that I have.

Thank you for your understanding and cooperation with my intentions.

Yours Sincerely in Sports

Santos launched major overseas fundraising initiative

“ATTACHMENT O1”

SANTOS FUNDRAISING APPEAL

BRIEF HISTORICAL BACKGROUND TO SANTOS FC
Subject to further research, we believe Santos FC, was established in the late 1980’s and early 1990’s by Mr. Mathew Houaisuta, who at that time was a vibrant Are’Are businessman in Honiara. Simultaneously he managed the well-known Narasirato panpipe. In all his business and social establishments, he had a deep concern to see Are’ Are youths, engage in worthwhile social activities. Santos FC predominantly consisted of Southern region players (Are’ Are’ & Small Malaita). Santos is still predominantly Are’Are, though we have players from other parts of Malaita as well. Santos is seen as a breeding ground for young potential footballers from Southern region, who might not otherwise have that opportunity in other clubs in Honiara. Santos has produced big local football names like Stanley Araha, Richard Mosimae and Isa’ac Maneioru. Isa’ac is Coach of the club, assisting Mr. Chris Asipara .

Santos in the olden days during the then HFA Peter Jackson league was a force to be reckoned with in Division 1. Santos managed to reach the Premier league once, and survived one season only.

It was later relegated to Division 1, where it has stayed for years, as a strong contender. This strength was evidenced last year when Santos was placed at fourth position, out of the twelve teams competing in Division 1.

SANTOS FC MANAGEMENT: A MAJOR PROBLEM
Among other things, management and administration was a biggest problem for the club. A new management team under the Leadership of Mr. Henry Kausimae (Lawyer at DPP’s Office) was established this year with a vision to bring Santos into the Premier Division in 2008. Many developments have since taken place to lift the morale of players and improve the management of the club (See web page for new Executive composition – photo on handover of a new set of uniform). A constitution is being circulated and will soon be adopted before the start of 2007 HFA DJ league. I am the Treasurer (John Keniapisia – Legal Advisor and Secretary to the Board, SIEA). Raising money/funds is one of my main duties.

SANTOS: A PLACE TO DEVELOP FUTURE LEADERS
One of the motivations for my involvement with Santos is to be a role model and inspiration to young Areka boys. Some of our key players are students and I am proud to be associated with future Areka academics. I will name a few: Kuylard Kaotara (Form 6 Arts, Florence young), Darwin Maeriua (Form 6, KGVI), Luke Kepae (Form 6 Arts, Tenaru).

FUNDRAISING INITIATIVES AND MAJOR BUDGET EXPENDITURE AREAS
Since I came to office, I had encouraged the boys that if we can help organize ourselves then other people will be attracted to help us. With the boys cooperation we participated in a Tsunami fundraising soccer knock out and snatched $1000.00 second prize (See web page – postings). We shared $220.00 amongst the players and retained the balance, which will be used to pay for our registration fee for 2007 HFA DJ league that is due to kick off in August 2007. Besides that we have received donation of two soccer balls from two Areka business men (See web page for photo – Kausimae receiving ball from Tony Tepe).

We also have ten people (mainly management team members) contributing $10 per head forth nightly. That has been going on well. Besides that other Management team members have been using their own resources to meet incidental club expenses like bus fare for players, soccer shoes for players and players transfer fees. Many thanks to President Mr. Henry Kausimae, Secretary Mr. Willy Waroka, Team Manager Mr. Tom Aruhane and Treasurer Mr. John Keniapisia, just to name a few.

Our major immediate common expense items are: soccer balls (at least five match balls), training bibs, soccer shoes and hire of playing grounds at KG VI. In terms of priority I placed them as follows: Soccer balls ($700.00), Field hire ($1000.00), Soccer shoes ($1300.00) and Training bibs ($1000.00 for locally made ones). We told our players that due to lack of resources, we will use club money for “common needs” only rather than individual needs. Common needs, in the order of priority supplied above in bold italics.

We will be making other fundraising efforts like appeal to Areka people in town and a walkathon. Money collected will be spend in the order of priorities identified above. So if you Southern Embassy members are kind enough to assist us we will spend the money as prioritized above and pictures will be posted in our web page as evidence).

All assistance (in kind and cash) received are recorded and kept in my file for purpose of reporting, transparency and accountability. We are yet to open a bank account as our Constitution is yet to be adopted. But I assure supporters that money received is spend on club needs and records (receipts etc) are kept in my file.

ASSISTANCE SOUGHT FROM SOUTHERN EMBASSY MEMBERS
We are kindly appealing to your good members to render support to their Southern brethrens in Santos FC, by giving $5.00 Fijian per head. This is only a minimum. If you feel strongly about supporting Santos and your wallet can afford please give more than $5.00. I am sure those WA’AKU”S like Paul Kausimae, Dr. Jack Koraua and Willy Hiuare just to name a few, can manage more than $5.00.

Please supply names of those who contributed and amount given for my file and records. Looking forward to your kind response.

UP DATES ABOUT SANTOS
News and update information about Santos is accessible through our web page (address supplied in our letter head in the covering letter).

CONCLUSION
When you give, you are helping a young Areka man engage in worthwhile social activity. Hence assisting our young men stay away from crime and other unacceptable behaviors. As a former USP student, I feel a sense of relationship with Southern Embassy student body. Hence I am not hesitant to ask help from you my fellow wantoks. The help you render would go a long way towards helping your fellow young men from Southern region excel in football.

I was a stronger supporter of Southern Embassy during my university days, at USP, Laucala, Campus. I can vividly recall my residence hosting Embassy gatherings on more than three occasions. I used to live off campus. Try askem one fala man hem look nice tumas name blo hem Mr. George Horoasia (USP) and he will confirm.

SANTOS FC BOYS BACK INTO NORMAL TRAINING DESPITE HFA'S LATE NOTICE OF THE POSTPONEMENT OF THE DJ LEAGUE

The Santos FC boys have resumed normal training on 20/08/06 despite frustrations caused by HFA in postponing the DJ League which was announced by them to start on 18/08/07. In fact Santos FC was to take on Island Brothers FC in the first match of Division 1 on 18/08/07 had it not been for the said last minute postponement. This sudden change has caused some frustrations not only in the Santos FC boys but other HFA Clubs as well. Although, there were low turn outs at the training ground on 20/08/07 and 21/08/07, the attendance improved on 22/08/07, 23/08/07 and 24/08/07 when the Club President and Treasurer visited the boys.

The training continues as usual on Monday 27th August 2007 until the opening of the DJ League which has now been reset for 8th September 2007. The DJ League matches will now start on 15th September. In the meantime, the team spirit is still intact in the Santos FC Camp amongst players and the managment. The boys are generally in good shape and fitness level and are really looking forward to the start of the DJ League and everyone is hopeful to lift and take Santos FC one step further during the coming 2007-2008 DJ League season.

The Santos FC Team is now under the newly-appointed coach Mr. Isaac Manaore. Mr. Manaore has been engaged by the Club Management to coach the boys due to Mr. Chris Asipara's continuous absence from the training venue and lack of explanantion of absence to the managements for several months now (More details on this issue later).

HFA DJ LEAGUE DUE TO START

League will start this Saturday 18/08/2007. Santos has paid its registration fee already. Only $126.00 is outstanding. Now it is arranging players transfer and hope that money will permit doing this excercise.

Things are looking good and players are in high spirit for start of the season.

We made our first overseas fundraising drive attempt to Solomon Islanders in Fiji, via Mr. Willy Hiuare and we are hoping for a positive response.

Thanks.

Santos secured playing grounds at KGVI

For years now Santos FC has been using the above grounds in the absence of any lease agreements. This was made possible through the networking established by Santos officials who are also staff at KG VI - Chris Asipara, Willy Waroka and Willy Okekini.

We are now moving towards a proper lease agreement. At an annual cost of $1000.00 fee rental, we are working towards securing a permanent place where Santos will call home. Last week KG VI allocated to us a space in front of Form 7 hostel.

Training ground is a scarce resource in Honiara and Santos FC really appreciated this friendship gesture from KG VI, over the years.

Thank you KG VI staff and management.

Friendly ended up in draw ((18/07/007)

Rangers o and Santos o. First half not good. Second half saw Santos executing instructions from coaches and there were very good chances, that were not converted, where you only have the keeper to beat.

Good learning game for the boys and coach. Santos was playing without some key players up front.

Friendly game

Friendly yesterday was cancelled due to unavailability of fields at KG grounds.

Friendly - Santos -v- Rangers today (17/07/007)

Arranged for this afternoon as part of training for 2007 league.

Last week Santos won a friendly against CY strikers (Honiara central SSEC) youth team playing for a place in 2007, division 2 league. As the pictures show Santos won by 2 - 0. Santos was playing under coach Isa'ac. Today's friendly will be under the watchful eyes of coach Asipara.

Will keep you posted on the result tomorrow.

Thanks.

Solo 2 - PNG 1

Solo won by one goal over PNG. Solo was the better side, but defence and strikers seem to be a problem. Defense clamsy at times and had it been Fiji strikers with strong powerful bullet strikings, Solo would have conceded almost 4 goals. There were four clear chances but Davani of PNG was not on target or powerful with his shoots on goal.

On the other hand there were two clear chances where only the keeper was to beat and yet Solo strikers were not that accurate.

But the good thing is that these are areas that the coach need to work on (strikers and back line) before next month, in Samoa.

We had new faces in the Solo team namely Goodwin Bebeu, young Toata Molea, Taro etc. They need more games to built their confidence.

Good luck solo team in your preparations, from Santos FC.

PNG 2 - KOSA 1

Playing without their key players in the likes of Omokirio, Naka and Takayama, Kosa was still strong on the field. They had more than 3 clear chances, including a penalty in the first half, but were unable to convert them into goals. Kosa dominated this half.

In the second half it was PNG's turn and they made good use of their chances to win the game. Their overseas based striker Davani made no mistake as he scored twice for his side.

Tommorrow's encounter would be a game to watch. Solomon's preparation will be put to the test and PNG under a new Brazillian coach would want to stamp their name in Oceania soccer, though they will be absent form SP games in Samoa.

Game starts at 4 pm solomon time, as there are SDA players in the Solo team.

Bilikiki celebrations in town

The team arrived at 12 mid-day and was driven around town in style, with decorations, vehicle sounds and the famous bilikiki song as on lookers parade the main high way.

A formal function will follow later today at Chow's place behind the PM's office.

Congratulations to Bilikiki from Santos FC for a fine achievement.

Thank you and regards!!

SANTOS FC ENGAGES NEW AND YOUNG COACH

Mr. Isaac Manaore will now become the Club's new coach unofficially at this stage, following recent informal discussions by the three Executive Committee Members namely the President, Treasurer and Secretary due to the ongoing unexplained absence of the current coach at the training ground during the past several weeks.

The President met up with Mr.Issac Manaore on 09.07.07 and purchased a pair of soccer boots and socks for the latter which cost $155.00.

Mr. Manaore will attend at the training ground in the afternoon of 09.07.07 in order to meet the players, club officials to have a feel and look of how things have been progressing so far. It is
anticipated that Mr. Manaore will unofficially introduce himself to everyone present and hint on what his training programme will be like for the following weeks. The enagagement of Mr. Manaore is not a replacement for the current coach but rather a complement. The current coach is most welcomed to come in and do trainings for the boys during the days where Mr. Manaore will not be present or he can still come in and help out when Mr. Manaore is
doing the trainings for the boys.
MORE NEW PLAYERS INTERESTED IN SIGNING FOR SANTOS FC

Five (5) new players have confirmed to the President their interest in joining and registering with Santos FC for the 2007 Division 1 HFA DJ League. The players are: - Mike Tahi (Marist FC - Super League), Robinson Wakio (Las United - relegated to Division 1), Sanga (Island Brothers FC - Division 1), James (Kukum Bombers FC- Division 2) and Dave Hiba Riuta’a (LS Kuma FC - Division 1)

In fact four (4) of the said players namely Mike, Robinson, Sanga and James have already played for Santos FC during the recent 7 aside soccer knockout competition organized by the Kukum Bombers FC at the Kukum Market playing ground on Sunday 1st July 2007. The team’s performance was fantastic but unfortunately the boys had to vow out in a penalty shoot out in the quarterfinal against the might of Beach Boys 1 which fielded most Super League players.

The Santos FC Management welcomes the said 5 intending new signings as they will add the much needed strength and experience in all key positions in the current squad. Their playing positions are as follows: Mike Tahi (Defender), Robinson Wakio (Midfielder), Dave Hiba Riuta’a (Midfielder) Sanga (Striker) and James (Goal Keeper). In the meantime, the Santos FC Management will be moving to finalize the players’ transfer conditions and requirements in respect of the concerned players with the HFA and the concerned clubs before the start of the 2007 league season.

The major and historic signing for Santos FC would be in respect of Mr. Mike Tahi who has played in the top Super League Division for Marist FC in last year’s HFA DJ league season. To have him in Division 1 with Santos FC would be a huge bonus for the club and a motivating or morale booster for other players.

Santos daily training lost momentum

Daily trainings at KG grounds has lost momentum in the last two weeks. But the reasons are obvious and appreciated. Bad weather, school holidays and lack of proper coaching programs set for players. Later reason is closely being monitored by Management and a probable solution would be a replacement of the coach for 2007. This is a matter for management to solve. All I am saying now is, it has become a problem and I am suggesting a solution.

For now I wish to extend greetings to friends who may be visiting this site, a joyous independence celebrations. In the last 29 years we have developed in the area of sports as well. For example when I was a boy there was no lawson tama as we now have (a development in sports infrastructure).

Thank you and regards!!

Santos out in Round 3

Santos went out from tournament through penalty after playing the same team twice.

After first 14 minutes of play, Santos and Beach boys A went to penalty shoot out and after 7 players from both teams each having their shots, there was still a tie. Beach boys complained that Santos fielded a player who played with a losing team in the tournament. Win awarded to Beach boys, but Santos argued that all the other teams were qulity of the same. It was then decided that they should replay again.

After another 14 minutes of play there was again a tie. There was penalty shoots and Beach boys won 3 -1. This game was a dirty one with Misitana (Marist player) making a lot of foul plays but Santos was mentally fit. We encourage fair play.

Thanks to those boys who completed the game. Beach boys A were the eventual winners of the tournament, walking away with $600.

Rainy week

Looks like a bad week with a bad weather. This will disrupt Santos daily trainings.

Additionally some key players have gone home for mid-year holidays and Bishop's cup in Southern region of Malaita, where bulk of Santos players come from.

Some new players are being attracted to join Santos and we have an open door policy. Last week a player with Island Brothers had indicated interest in joining Santos this 2007 season.

Santos into Round 3

Santos fielded one team only due to non availability of some key players and others. Most of our players went home for holidays and to attend Bishop's cup on the Southern region of Malaita (an annual tournament for Catholics in that region).

Santos team played its first game on Sat (23/06/007) and won through penalty shots. Yesterday it had a comfortable win of 2 - 0 goals against its opponent. Both opponents are Kukum Bombers (the hosts).

The win yesterday was magnificient with a display of skills, coordination and team effort both on and outside the field (players and management). Santos deadly striker Mr. Kaelet made some crucial break throughs that resulted in the two goals.

Tournament continues this Sunday (30/06/007).

Thursday, June 21, 2007

Santos will field in two teams tommorrow

Kukum bombers will be hosting a 7 aside soccer knock out tommorrow at the Kukum market field. This is a fundraising drive. Santos will use this opportunity to continue with its preparation for the 2007 HFA league.

Registration fee is $60.00 per team and the prizes are: 1. $600 and 2. $400.

I will post next week on the results.

Local Are'Are Businessmen Donate Soccer Balls To Santos FC

Responding to Santos FC appeal for assistance, two local business Are’ Are men in Honiara have donated some soccer balls to Santos FC, on 11th May 2007.

Andrew Hanaria and Tony Tepe donated soccer balls to assist Santos in its preparation for 2007/2008 HFA DJ league.

President of Santos FC, Mr. Henry Kausimae received the soccer balls from Tony Tepe Director and owner of TM Internet café and Xerox photocopier and printer center, Honiara witnessed by club treasurer Mr. John Keniapisia.

Mr. Kausimae thanked Tony Tepe saying the balls came at a time when Santos FC is pulling together resources to properly organize the club for the coming season. Mr. Kausimae said the assistance would go a long way to helping young Solomon Islanders engage in worthwhile social activities.

Club treasurer appreciated the kind donations saying that all assistance in kind and cash would be recorded and accounted for in line with the club’s respect for transparency and accountability. He thanked both businessmen for recognizing their corporate social responsibility in assisting community activities.

HFA 2006 closing announced

I was priviliged to attend a special meeting of HFA executive today (31/05/007) whereby Nelson Boso of DJ graphics announced that prize/closing of HFA DJ league 2006 season will take place on 16/06/007.

This means that 2007 is close to a start and for Santos we should faithfully carry on with our trainings and preparations for 2007 HFA DJ league.

As for registration and annual affiliation fees for 2007, we now have in excess of $700.00 cash at hand. Both fees should be around $900.00. So we are doing fine in our preparations. Administratively and Management wise we are on track. I am also aware there are daily trainings at KGVI grounds.

Partnership for a successful Santos in 2007 and beyond is one of our aims.

From Club Treasurer - Mr. John Keniapisia.

Santos snatched $1000 in second prize

Santos FC walked away $1000.00 richer on 28/05/007, after attending a seven - a- side soccer knock out held by Lauru people in Honiara. Santos FC was happy to attend a worthy cause - fundraising to help victims of the recent tsunami.

Santos fielded two teams. Team 1 went out in the first round, through penalty shoot out. Team 2 went all the way to the grand final losing 3- 2 to Agfa Hana 2, a rival team in HFA division 1 2006.

Eleven players in team 2 shared $220 equally and the balance was retained by club treasurer. This money will be used to pay for 2007 HFA registration fee. Treasurer was thankful to players and management for working together in this achievement. This would mean that the club has assisted itself in paying for 2007 HFA fees, unlike in the past where outside assistance would be sought for this HFA fee. One of our aims is to help ourselves and then we can ask others to help us.

Thank you once again to players and all those who help in one way or another towards this fine achievement.

From Club Treasurer - Mr. John Keniapisia.

New Management Committee Elected To Lead SFC Into The 2007/2008 HFA DJ League

On 5th May 2007, SFC elected its new Executive Committee for the 2007/2008 financial year, which coincides or falls in line with the upcoming new 2007 HFA-DJ first league season – for office bearers, please refer to the attached Minutes – about 20 members attended the meeting. During the said meeting, the outgoing SFC President also handed a new set of uniforms recently sponsored by RAMSI to the new President and his new Executive – refer to the attached photo (Outgoing President in yellow cut-shirt and new President in dark grey cut-shirt, flanked by members of the new Executive in the background). SFC is ranked 4th in the 2006 HFA League.
The club was established in the 1980’s by some members of the Honiara- Are’ Are Community and had since then been participating in the HFA Leagues. The club has been predominantly made up of players and members of the Are’ Are Community and had been managed largely on an informal or ad hoc basis prior to the election of the current new Executive Committee. The primary aim of the club is to provide the opportunity for young and talented Are’ Are players who cannot make it into other football clubs in Honiara, to participate in a much more better organized and higher competitive football playing environment such as the HFA DJ League. However the club has an open door policy and welcomes members of other communities in Honiara and Solomon Islands to join in if they wish. The club had reached the Premier/Super League Division only once in the past and managed to survive one season only. So one of the aims of the new Executive Committee is to make the club qualify again for the Premier/Super Division at the end of the first season in Division 1 of the new 2007 HFA-DJ League and to remain in the Premier League Division for as long as it can take.

The club is also looking at changing the current name “Santos” with a new original name to reflect the members’ origin and national identity – a new club name will be decided at the next general meeting which has been scheduled in about three (3) weeks time. The club is looking at playing with a new name at the start of the 2007 HFADJ League first season. The club will also be adopting a new Constitution at the next proposed general meeting in order to address the said change in club name and also to guide and govern how the club’s affairs and businesses are to be run in the long-term for consistency and continuity of the club.

The First Proposed Executive Meeting Failed To Convene

The Club's first Executive Committee meeting proposed for Sunday 13th May 2007 at 3.00pm at Mr. Alick Ha'apio's residence was cancelled due to lack of quorum. Only three Executive Committee members turned up namely: Mr. Henry Kausimae (President), Mr. John Keniapisia (Treasurer) and Mr. Augustine Rukarae (Assistant Coach). The rest of the Executive members did not turn up may be because it was the Mother's Day.

Anyway, Executive Committee members should be looking and listening out this week for further advice from the President regarding the new date and venue for the Executive Meeting. This Executive meeting must convene early so that the date for the Club's next general meeting could be fixed before the start of the 2007 HFA DJ League as there are very important agendas to be discussed and resolved.

The Clubs Official Training Times & Venue

Subject to the advice from the Coach and Team Manager in consultation with the Executive Committee, the current Club's official training times are as follows: Every Mondays to Fridays from 5.00pm to 6.00pm effective from 7th May 2007. The training venue shall be the KGVI School South Field or if engaged the southern end of the KGVI School Rugby Field, if not the KGVI School Cricket Ground. The Executive will be looking at entering into some kind of new arrangment with the KGVI School management for consistent and uninterrrupted use of its sports grounds.
Currently, the Club is engaging the services of Mr. Paul Ratu, as the team's physical fitness test trainer. Mr. Paul Ratu is currently the KGVI School P.E. Staff. The Executive will be looking into engaging Mr. Ratu also as the Club Team's Physio when the new HFA-DJ League Season commences. Mr. Ratu will be working closely with the Coach and players from time to time at the training venue.
In the meantime, the Executive is looking forward to receive and to endorse the Club's official training programmes/timetable/reports from the Coach in preparation for and during the upcoming first Season of the HFA-DJ League.
On 7th May 2007, the Club Playing Members were urged by the President to remain committed, focussed and faithful to the Club training programmes and to have discipline on and off the field and to respect the coach, team manager and physical trainer during all training sessions. The players were also informed that, the Executive will be devising a daily attendance list for the training sessions and its accompanying rules in consultation with the coach and team manager. The purpose for this is to assist the coach/team manager/Executive to keep consistent track of all players. The attendance list is also crucial for the coach and team manager in selecting the right deserving players for each match during the coming league.

The Club's New Executive Committee

On 5th May 2007, the Club held its first official General Meeting for 2007 and elected its new Executive Committee for the 2007-2008 financial year coinciding with the first HFA-DJ League Season. The new Executive Committee is constituted as follows: President (Henry Kausimae), Vice-President (Eric Waruaho'a), Secretary (Willie Waroka), Treasurer (John Keniapisia), 3 Committee Members (Willie Okekini, Michael Houkari'a and Apollos Inasimae), Team Manager (Tome Aruhane), Coach (Chris Asipara) and Assistant Coach (Augustine Rukarae To'imae).
At the end of the said meeting, the outgoing President of the Club (William Okekini) handed over the new set of uniform for the Club sponsored by RAMSI to the new President (Henry Kausimae) and his Executive Committee.
Under AOB, there was a lengthy discussion on the proposal to change the name of the Club from "Santos" to a name that is more refective of our origin or national identity. The name Santos is more foreign, noting it was first adopted for use from Pele's Club in Brazil.
The new Executive will have its first meeting on 13/05/07 before calling another general meeting of the club two(2)weeks after that in order to finalize the new name for the Club, to adopt the new Constitution for the Club (copies of which are now being handed out to the members for comments and review), finalise registration and admission of new members, renewal of financial membership of existing Club members, Club's programme of action or activities timetable for the 2007-2008 League Season and any other businesses arising.
Club members are advised to keep on listening or looking out for notice or advice to come from the Executive Committee or the Secretary in relation to the next proposed General Meeting of the Club.

Formation of Santos Football Club

The Santos Football Club ("SFC") was originally formed at Honiara in Solomon Islands by some unidentified members of the Honiara-based Are'Are Community in the 1980's. The primary aim for the formation of the Club, it would seem, was firstly, to provide an opportunity for the Are'Are football players in Honiara to participate in the HFA and SIFF organized leagues and conditions. Since its inception, SFC, has been from time to time managed by different members of the Are'Are Community in Honiara. There seemed to be no proper mechanisms put in place in order to facilitate continuity, consistent and transparent management of the club. Thus, there appeared to be no clear-cut goals, purposes, objects and vision for the future of SFC. Players, supporters and member have come and gone. Unfortunately, this had created a breeding ground for ineffective and inefficient administration and management of the club in the recent past. The Club had already reached the HFA Super League Division once in the past but due to the factors mentioned above it was relegated to Division 1 just after one season - since then SFC is still in Division 1 of the HFA League until today. In an attempt to revitalize the club once again, the Caretaker-Interim Committee has taken the initiative for a Constitution to be drafted for the Club - the draft is now completed and has been tabled already in a general meeting of the club held on 9th March 2007 for comments and amendments. There is now some positive signs that others who had come and gone before are now gradually expressing new interests to come back to SFC and contribute something worthwhile for the club- this is greatly and warmly welcomed by the club. Anyway, the Constitution is now ready and in place for adoption during the upcoming general meeting of the club on 5th May 2007. The Constitution is to be seen as the Club's Bible which should guide and regulate the day to day operations of the club as well as ensuring consistent existence and continuity of SFC into the indefinite future. Of course, members and supporters will come and go from time to and at some stages but Santos FC shall remain.
